Second Semi Update: Action poses redone

I'm redoing my action poses, and am posting this to see if this is the appropriate level of detail that my Prof is looking for.

Semi-update: Action poses

The next part of the independent study is to do action sketches. I'm not finished with these yet, but I wanted to show off what I've done so far. I've never done this kind of drawing with figures before, only with objects such as boxes and jars. As I've been working on this, I am seeing why people keep things light at first so they can fix mistakes. The tutorial sent to me by my Professor that showed reference shots of hands was very helpful in improving how I draw them, though there is of course still a lot to improve upon. Looking at the screenshot of my drawings, I can see some errors in them that are less apparent to me when I look at the actual sheet of paper. These drawings aren't complete, but I do feel that I'm learning a lot from this.

Getting used to hands now

I went back and redrew the character. I think it is safe to say that this is a big improvement, even if not everything is perfect. The hands and feet still gave me some trouble, but I feel a lot better about them.

One of the major things Prof. Garvey made note of last time was how squished the side view drawing had looked. I think I succeeded in making the character look better proportioned. Hopefully Prof. Garvey will think that as well.

It will only get better with practice.

Update: I noticed a problem with the knee in the side picture, and I tried to fix it up a bit.

I hate Hands.

Here are my initial drawings of the shadow warrior from the front and side. I followed the suggestion from Prof. Garvey to have the character stay 8 heads tall. The biggest challenge was getting the hand and foot size to a reasonably acceptable size. Though there are some small details that could be changed, overall I'm very satisfied with what I've done.

Character Height

The first step in research the shadow warrior is to look at the height of the character. From the reading material Prof. Garvey recommended me, I have measured the shadow warrior to be 9 heads tall. Humans are typically 7 or 8 heads tall, and in the Warhammer world, elves such as the shadow warrior I am drawing are taller than humans, so this would make sense. Ignoring the cone shaped helmet, I measured the head height as closely as I could in this concept art.

Next I will draw the character from a front and side angle. As mentioned in my previous post, I will be ignoring the clothing and equipment for now so I can focus on getting the body shape correct.
